Herods Massacre

As you start your bible adventure through the New Testament you will enter the first scene – a theatrical staged performance of Herods Massacre. The scene will be dimly lit. The lights will come on gradually and the performance begins.

Seated on a Throne you see King Herod, one single spot light shines upon him, Standing before him is a guard. Now when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, for they had not returned to tell him where Jesus was born he becomes very enraged, and orders that all the male children who were in Bethlehem to be murdered. He says to the guard "Go make history and kill them all! 2 years and younger, kill them. Now the guard is astonished and pleads with the King, but herod is so enraged and he yells again. Kill them! Now!

LIGHTS GO DOWN, you hear the sound of people screaming the torturous cries of babies and sorrowful weeping of mothers.

Suddenly a woman runs towards you, in her arms she protectively holds a baby. She pleads to you for help......"Please help me! Save my baby! Followed closely behind her is the guard, his sword is raised and he reaches for the woman as she turns away from you and runs. You see them leave the scene, on the back wall a light comes on behind the wall to show the shadowed form of the guard chasing the woman, you continue to hear the screams of the women and the cries of the babies as they are slaughtered. The guard grabs the woman by her hair and raises his sword he swings cutting the woman and her baby down killing them both. Lights go out. The laughter of King Herod fills the room.

A single dim spotlight comes on showing the shadow of King Herod on his throne you see him grasp his chest and slump down into the seat of the throne. A narration is heard :A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and she refused to be comforted, because they were no more."

Lights go out.
