Temptation in the Wilderness

As you continue on your bible adventure to the temptation in the wilderness scene – a theatrical staged performance. The scene will be dimly lit. You see a large curtain with a slide presentation with a narration explaining the story of Jesus Christ before the temptation in the wilderness. You will see Jesus at the age of 12 among the teachers – Mary and Joseph finding Jesus in the temple, the baptism of Jesus by John, and Jesus going into the wilderness. After the presentation the lights go out, the curtain opens and the performance begins.

Before you is a large rock formation, the scene is lit by a single soft light that shines directly upon the actor playing Jesus. He sits on top of the rock formation, he looks weak and tired. His head hangs low. Suddenly out of nowhere, Satan appears standing beside him, he tempts Jesus by saying If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But Jesus answers and says, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, (as this is said the back wall of the scene lights up and you see the painting of the Holy City.) And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down! But Jesus says to Satan, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Now after this being said, Satan stands up, and spreads his leathery wings, he stretches out his arm and sweeps the room as he says the following. (As the actor portraying Satan does the above action, the lighting flickers out and back on, across the entire floor and under the audiences feet is the world and there are depictions of some of our most infamous landmarks Satan says, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me!

Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Now as fast as Satan appeared next to Jesus, he so also disappeared.

All lighting goes out and once again a single spot light shines upon Jesus, and this time standing by Him are Angels.
