After the presentation, The lights go out, the curtain opens and the performance begins.
A light comes on showing a long banquet table adorned with various foods and drink. The table lines the wall on one side of the room (scene). This is the celebration of King Herod's birthday. You see the King seated at the table, close by is a woman. A soft almost memorizing eerie music plays, and dancing before him is the woman's daughter (Salome). Her dance pleases the king so much that he asks her what she would like. He promises her she can have whatever she asks. Salome speaks to her mother and after having been prompted by her mother, she says, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist." Although he was grieved, the king commanded it to be given because of his oaths, and because of his dinner guests. At this time the lights go down on this half of the scene. On the other side a spotlight comes on, it shines down upon a man (John) he is kneeling on the ground head bowed and hands shackled. His garments are worn and tattered. His shadow casts upon the stone walls of his dark and dingy prison cell. Looming over the top of him is a large hooded figure cloaked in black, in his hands he holds a large battle axe as he raises it up and over his head you hear the music of Salome's dance playing in the background. The music intensifies as the figure brings the axe to full extension over his body and brings it crashing down towards Johns neck, just before it beheads John the lights and music suddenly go out but you hear the thud of a head as it hits the ground. A spotlight shines on a woman seated in a chair by her side is her daughter (Salome) In her hands she holds a silver platter and on it, the head of John the Baptist.
