Pontius Pilate

As you continue on your bible adventure to the Pontius Pilate scene – a theatrical staged performance, the scene will be dimly lit. You see a large curtain with a slide presentation with a narration explaining Judas cast down silver, Judas hangs himself, Peter's denial, Jesus before Caiaphas, Jesus lead from Caiaphas to Pilate. After the presentation the lights go out, the curtain opens and the performance begins.

As the curtain begins to open you hear the yells from a gathered crowd.
Actor playing Pilate says to the crowd, What accusation bring ye against this man?
They answer and say to him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

Pilate responds: Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:

Then Pilate calls to Jesus, and says to him, Art thou the King of the Jews?

Jesus replies: Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?

Pilate: Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?

Jesus: My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

Pilate: Art thou a king then? Jesus answers, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Pilate: What is truth? He then addresses the crowd, and says to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man. Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him: I will therefore chastise him, and release him.
But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

They cry out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:
(Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
Pilate motions for Jesus to be taken, He is led behind a wall, at this time the lights go down and you only see the wall in which Jesus was taken. You see a shadowed form of Jesus and a soldier. Jesus's hands are raised and chained to a pole, you see the soldier raise his arm in it he carries a whip with talons, you see him crack the whip and hear the yell of pain from Jesus as the whip hits him in the back. CCRRRAACCK, another hits Jesus, Crack, crack, crack, continuously over and over you see the soldier hitting Jesus and you hear each painful scream!

After the beating, Jesus is led back out to Pilate, you see Jesus covered in blood, his robe is tattered and his flesh is torn from his body and hangs soaked in blood.

And the soldiers place a crown of thorns, on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,
And say, Hail, King of the Jews! And they smote him with their hands. (Hit him)

Pilate says: Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him. He gestures towards Jesus and says Behold the man!

But they yell out, saying, crucify him, crucify him. We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

Pilate turns to Jesus and says: Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?

Jesus: Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

Again the Chief Priest and people yell out If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

Pilate again gestures towards Jesus and says to the people Behold your King!
But they cry out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate says to them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

Pilate turns to a bowl which contains water, he places his hands into the bowl and rubs his hands with the water, he takes them out and shows them to the Chief Priests and people and says I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it - of this I wash my hands. He then delivers Jesus unto the Jews to be crucified, They yell and cheer the judgment.
